Repeat Prescriptions
We would encourage you to order your prescriptions up to a week before you need them. We cannot accept earlier prescription requests without discussion with a GP.
Repeat prescriptions may be requested:
- By ordering via the Patient Access system**. If you are not registered for this service please print off the Application Form for Patient Access, complete it and bring it into reception with photo ID. Reception will give you a unique pin number to access 'Online Patient Access Services'. You only need to do this once.
- By post, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope if the prescription is to be returned.
- Personally at the reception desk.
- By putting your request in the box outside the front door.
- By email to: sxicb-wsx.newtons.prescriptions@nhs.net
**The most effective and efficient method for ordering your repeat medication is by using the 'Patient Access' service. It allows you to request your repeat medication directly from your Doctor via a list of your repeat medications*. You can also use the Patient Access service to book and cancel appointments.
*If your medication does not appear in the request list, it may be because that particular medication may have been a one off prescription for the condition you had/have and is not considered a 'repeat medication'. Use the 'message for your practice' box to add in a note requesting medication you've had before but isn't on your repeat list. New medications should always be discussed with a GP before requesting it.
In order to avoid mistakes and ensure your safety, we do not accept requests for repeat medication over the telephone. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible to waive this but this must be negotiated with your GP or the Practice Manager.
Please remember that there are certain medications that cannot be prescribed without first seeing the doctor.
PLEASE ALLOW AT LEAST 72 HOURS (3 WORKING DAYS) FOR YOUR PRESCRIPTION TO BE PREPARED AND AN ADDITIONAL 48 HOURS FOR THE PHARMACY TO PROCESS IT. THIS TIME IS ONLY FOR REGULAR REPEAT ITEMS. THE PROCESSING TIME WILL BE LONGER IF YOU ARE DUE A MEDICATION REVIEW, IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD THE ITEM BEFORE OR FOR A LONG TIME, OR IF YOU NEED TO BE CONTACTED TO DISCUSS YOUR MEDICATION REQUEST.
