When the practice is closed

Out of hours emergency cover is managed by Harmoni West Sussex.

If you require urgent medical attention when the surgery is closed, please telephone 01444 412280 to be reminded of their telephone number or call Harmoni on 0300 130 1313.

Newtons Patient Participation Group

Would you like to become a member of the  'Newtons Patient Participation Group'?

With the support of several patients we started a small patient group up in October 2010.  PPGs are run by volunteers (patients of the practice) who are keen to make a difference to their communities and to their GP Practice. We are meeting on a regular basis to discuss all the current issues that the practice and patients will be facing in the next 12 months. We also hope to run an educational event on a Saturday morning, inviting a local consultant from the Princess Royal Hospital to come in and talk about a medical condition that can impact on us and our families from Asthma and Diabetes to Womens and Mens health in general. Your ideas will always be welcome!

The main role for many PPGs is communication - improving communication between the patients and the practice, acting as a representative of the wider patient population, and providing the local community with useful and timely health information and advice. The most common activities are:

Critical friend: Advising the practice on the patient perspective and helping to ensure that services are well designed to improve the patient experience.

2011-09-09_15_09_02RH Health promotion: Know your numbers. PPG members David Johns and Rosemary Humphreys are using the blood pressure machine and weighing scales in the waiting room to check their numbers. Please feel free to use this equipment to check your numbers too!

Running health promotion events and promoting self-care so that patients play as full a part as possible in understanding and looking after their own health.

Improving communication:

Raising awareness of the activities of the practice and other support that is available to patients, as well as relaying information back to the practice.   If you are interested in joining in, please contact Maura Preece the Practice Manager, she will be delighted to hear from you.

Please refer to the 'Practice News' page for the dates of the meetings. Thank you.
